Explore creativity on the Downs at Butts Brow this September.

On 16th September join the Changing Chalk Partnership to discover the incredible heritage and ecology of the Downland in Willingdon and tell us what you think about this area.

From 10am – 4pm visitors can get hands on with archaeology found in the area, find out how flint tools are made and learn the skills of a 17th century fleece wrangler. Create art and textiles to interpret extraordinary Downland stories by making your own piece of clunch art (chalk carving using flint and natural dyes) or making your own felt. Walk in the footsteps of Eastbourne’s (pre)historic residents, take part in a wildlife survey, and explore the incredible ecology. All activities are free with the following guided walks 11.00am - Photography walk, 1pm - Ecology walk to Butts Meadow, 3pm - Heritage walk to Combe Hill.

Led by the National Trust, Changing Chalk is a multi-partner, multi-project initiative supported by a £2.23m Heritage Fund grant made possible thanks to National Lottery players, by players of People's Postcode Lottery, and The Linbury Trust.

Its aim is to restore lost habitats, bring histories to life, and provide new experiences in the outdoors. By connecting nature, people and heritage across a 458 sqkm area of the eastern South Downs, this internationally-significant landscape can be restored and protected for today and all our tomorrows.
