Explore the skies with Eastbourne Astronomical Society this Winter.

Using the society’s telescopes to explore the craters on the moon It is also hoped constellations of the night sky will be observable too. There will be a telescope set up on planet Saturn where visitors will be able to see the rings and clouds bands. Other telescopes will be taking images of The Andromeda Galaxy and The "Seven Sisters" a blue open cluster of stars.

Viewable at the February events will be craters and mountains on the moon, the cloud bands on Jupiter plus four of it's moons, The Seven Sisters blue star cluster, The Andromeda Galaxy plus various other star constellations.

Stargazing will not go ahead if it rains but we’re hoping for clear skies!

Cadence coffee will be staying open later to sell hot drinks on these chilly evenings.

See below the list of what will be visible at the Stargazing events:

Oct 17th 2026 6 to 8pm

• For each of the monthly stargazing events, the mountains and craters will be visible.
• Saturn will be low in the East.
• Bright star Arcturus will be in the West.
• The summer constellation of Cygnus the Swan will be high overhead.

Nov 14th 2026 5 to 7 pm

• Moon mountains and craters.
• Andromeda Galaxy and the constellation of Cassiopeia will be visible.
• Saturn will be higher this month and should show it’s rings and cloud bands.
• The Northern Taurids meteor shower will be active.

Jan 16th 2027 5 to 7pm

• Moon mountains and craters.
• Saturn will again be visible showing it’s ring, cloud bands and possibly it’s moons.
• The Andromeda Galaxy will be higher.
• The Seven Sisters, Pleiades, bright blue stars group.
• The Constellation of Cassiopeia.
• Constellation Orion and it’s bright nebula.
• Twins Castor and Pollux.

Feb 13th 2027 6 to 8 pm

• Moon mountains and craters.
• Mars and Jupiter in the east.
• Jupiter cloud bands and 4 moon visible.
• Twins Castor and Pollux.
• Constellation Orion and it’s bright nebula.
• Seven Sisters, Pleiades, bright blue stars group.

March 13th 2027 7 to 9 pm

• Moon mountains and craters.
• Mars and Jupiter will be very close in the South and higher.
• Jupiter cloud bands and 4 moon visible.
• Twins Castor and Pollux.
• Constellation Orion and it’s bright nebula.
• Seven Sisters, Pleiades, bright blue stars group.
