Beachy Head Downland Trail: Victorian Rambles

In 1849 the railways arrived in Eastbourne, this crucial new travel link established the town as the eastern gateway to the South Down’s. Victorian tourists arrived in droves to experience the brilliant white chalk cliffs and stunning panoramic views offered by Beachy Head. Join us for a guided walk around ‘Victorian’ Beachy Head as we discover what the area would have looked like towards the end of the 19th century and hear about some of the people we might have met wandering through the downland. Be it for work or leisure, stone masons, alpinists, shepherds, journalists, scientists, revolutionary socialists, holiday makers, people from all walks of Victorian life were drawn to Beachy Head. They brought ideas, formed connections, and left their mark on the landscape.  This walk takes us out into onto the downland to meet the Victorians.

The walk will take approx 45 minutes and is weather dependent. Meet at The Beachy Head Story, no need to book! £2.50 per person
